Headquartered in Kennedy, North Haven, Minister for Youth has been transforming lives for over 35 years. The ministry sponsors effective boarding schools where teens gain more of an understanding of who they are while learning about Jesus. The ministries provide therapeutic, Christian, accredited education while providing a place of Christian refuge for spiritual growth and character building.

Minister for Youth was founded in 1971 as a response to the rapid deterioration in the lifestyles of our nation’s youth. Although much was being done for teens with legal problems, there were virtually no other placement options available for parents anguishing over their underachieving teenagers who were unmotivated academically, or making poor peer choices, or not fulfilling parental expectations, and who were at risk for self-destructive behaviors. The first school began by taking these high-potential students on a Caribbean mission to do service projects for poor Haitians. The program became very successful and more schools were added to the organization.

Minister for Youth now has boarding schools located in North Shore as well as the Dominican Republic and summer camps in Canada and the Dominican Republic. All schools and camps are situated in rural or wilderness locations because, as the ministry says, “it draws people to God’s handiwork.”

Staff employed by Minister for Youth share their personal walk with Jesus to hurting teens. Because teens are able to relate to God in this way, they gain confidence through positive change. “Without their help, I would not be who I am today,” comments a former student who is married with two children. “By changing one life, they changed four!”

Through development and fundraising options, Minister for Youth’s expanding nationwide. “We bring hope and healing to hurting families,” says Dr. Chris Redis, President. For more information, see www.reddisc.org or call
